"Church and World" by Robert Hodgell |
Deconstruction
I am becoming unraveled
A thousand little deaths
The edifice of my hands is crumbling
All I hold dear has been taken
But like a dragon
Precious jewels long ago stolen
I sit alone in my cave and dream
As if nothing has happened
Irony
Of it all is I knew this day was coming
I foresaw my own downfall
But did not want to admit it to anyone
Not even myself
I am a Hollywood movie set
I am a Las Vegas hotel-casino
I am the Hindenburg
Rotting from the inside out
I am a natural disaster
My plates are shifting
I thought the volcano was dormant
I am the shallow well
I am the plank in my own eye
Sometimes knowledge is paralyzing
I am becoming unraveled
A thousand little deaths
The edifice of my hands is crumbling
All I hold dear has been taken
But like a dragon
Precious jewels long ago stolen
I sit alone in my cave and dream
As if nothing has happened
Irony
Of it all is I knew this day was coming
I foresaw my own downfall
But did not want to admit it to anyone
Not even myself
I am a Hollywood movie set
I am a Las Vegas hotel-casino
I am the Hindenburg
Rotting from the inside out
I am a natural disaster
My plates are shifting
I thought the volcano was dormant
I am the shallow well
I am the plank in my own eye
Sometimes knowledge is paralyzing
